Blinkd is a concept for a social media app that centers around quasi-anonymous, self destructing group chats. Users create a network from their mobile contacts, broadcast media to a select audience, and thereby open a group discussion for a select period of time. A broadcast can be set as public, private, or anonymous, and airtime ranges from 5 minutes to 12 hours. When time runs out, the broadcast disappears from the host’s channel and all records of the discussion are erased. By removing the permanence traditionally associated with digital communication, Blinkd encourages a fluid and spontaneous form of interaction that is lacking on existing messaging platforms.
